Book Review

Another Day in the Frontal Lobe
by Katrina Firlik

This book is an account of the years of training involved to become a neurosurgeon. The author writes with humor and compassion and has a style that one does not need a degree in science or medicine to understand. Throughout the book, she expresses her deeply held philosophies on her life and career. Her advice: live each day to the fullest, appreciate what you have, and always wear a seatbelt :).

This book is for anyone who enjoys reading popular science titles or memoirs.

One note of caution: probably not a good idea to read while eating!

Wasp Nest

Look at the wasp nest we found outside the lower level entrance. We were weeding the children's garden when someone noticed this beauty. Don't worry, it has been removed. Please take the time to admire the wonderful gardens our children have planted and weeded outside the lower level Hunt Room entrance. We had fun and learned so much from Master Gardeners Ann Phillips and Joe Melinda. Thanks Ann and Joe! Susie Draeger-Anderson, Children's Services

The 4th of July Parade was lots of fun. Our parade crew did an excellent job of throwing candy to the hungry children along the route. The float shown above was created by a very artistic group of kids to celebrate our new pet turtle. It also announced his name. The vote is in and DASH is the name you voted for. Don't forget to say hi to Dash the next time you visit the library! Keep up the great reading. You guys are breaking records this summer!

Hey there everyone

This month's Wednesday movies at the library are a bit different from our recent showings. We have decided to lighten up a little with some upbeat and fun selections. On Wednesday, July 12 at 4pm, we are showing Rumor Has It, starring Jennifer Aniston, as Sarah, the granddaughter of the woman who was the inspiration for the character of Mrs. Robinson made famous by the book and movie The Graduate and Kevin Costner, as the man partly responsible for her notoriety. When these two meet at a family wedding, secrets are uncovered and the fun begins!

On Wednesday, July 26 at 4pm, we are thinking Christmas in July and showing The Family Stone, a holiday comedy about a crazy family with plenty of secrets stashed away in their New England home. Starring Sarah Jessica Parker as Meredith, the uptight girlfriend of the eldest of the Stone children,(Dermott Mulroney) who soon finds herself in an uncomfortable situation at the annual Stone holiday gathering. The family is not too keen on her and that is just when the laughs get started....

Both of these movies are Rated PG-13 and are a little under two hours. Hope to see a lot of you there!!

If you have any comments or suggestions for upcoming movies, please let me know, we want to cater to your interests and tastes!

10,000 People Flock to Library in June!!!

Nearly 10,000 citizens of the Hales Corners area came to the library in June! Wow, was that exciting! Kids' programs are a big reason for the extra people being here.

People headed out of town on vacation are looking for books and books on tape or cassette to read or listen to in the car.

Those staying in town are enjoying movies at the library. Today's Friday Flick is Eight Below. It is rated PG, runs for 112 minutes and will be shown at 1:30 in the Hunt Room. Bring your own soda or snack, or buy them here.
